I agree with most of your points, but I just don't see voluntary education working out (as much as I'd like it to!). If it was completely open to the choice of the children, I think a lot of kids would get jobs early instead of learning skills that will help them a lot. But it won't be up to the kids, it'll be up to the parents, and I don't think that's any better. Many parents would force their children to go to school, but low-income ones might force the kids to work. And I don't really see much good coming out of this. If parents have more ability to choose the schools, I think most would go with the cheapest ones that will be good for college. Even many students may choose the cheapest schools that would be good for college.

Maybe instead of making learning optional, let us choose what to learn?
