003 Sacrifice, Lupin And Learning
Hello! Hope your weekend is going great! This is my weekly newsletter. Here's the list of what's been going on this week. Learning new things, ideas, experimenting, books, news, and more from this week.
Why the word "sacrifice" is used wrongly and why you shouldn't "sacrifice":
I've heard so many people use the word "sacrifice" and I always believe that they're using it all wrong. Because of the mere difference between a decision (or a wise choice) and sacrifice. Take Olympians for example, do you think we should be describing them in this way: "Olympic athletes have sacrificed so much (food, parties, friends, having fun and living life) just to take part in a 12 second 100 meter dash."
Or...
"Olympic athletes have to make a few tough tradeoffs but they know they are doing it for the right long-term reasons because they want to."
Athletes don't sacrifice anything, they just know their priorities and things that are important for them. Their decisions and choices of doing what they are doing are of much more significance that the small tradeoffs of meagre importance to them, like not eating pizza or going out for late night parties with their friends for a couple of years to win.
I declaim more on this topic in Article 017. You can read it here
A quote which I found to be amazing this week:
