025 The New Year
Hello Everybody!
Here's your weekly Amazing Things & Ideas Newsletter.

The New Year
If only we were as pumped up and in a celebratory mood for each new day as we are for every new year on New Year's Eve... the world would be very different.
(By "pumped up and in a celebratory mood", I don't mean partying madly. Rather, the sense of optimism for a new beginning, new promises made, and general glee that comes with the New Year.)
When people wish you a Happy New Year, or Merry Christmas, or Happy Birthday you can generally feel their words. They are really meaningfully wishing you.
But on regular days the usual, nothing ceremonious; Good morning becomes an unconscious phrase of greeting. There's just no passion in it. It doesn't even seem willing, coming from another person each morning.
Don't let that happen.
Treat every day, not even as if it were a New Year, but as if it were your last day.
Oh and, Happy New Year.
The Amazing Things & Ideas List
Thought on process over destination:
"There is no path to peace. Peace is the path." — Mahatma Gandhi
A simple choice to make:
"One day or day one. You decide." — The Minimalists
New skill I'm implementing:
Meditation.
Living consciously is a hard game to play in this world. Especially when our genes are wired to do the contrary. I'm trying out meditation this year, to ground myself and look at the world and everything in it, as it is. And justifying impulsive action, to lead more intentionally.
I'm using the Headspace app membership for implementing the habit into my daily routine.
It's a great tool. They've got everything a beginner might need and still much more.
Best audiobook I've ever listened to:
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Bill Gates recommended Project Hail Mary in his holiday reading list. That nudged me to want to read the book.
Telling anything even little would make me spoil the plot at least to a small extent. So, I won't do that.
I'll just say that this is one of the best science-fiction books I've ever read, and it's about a human called Ryland Grace saving the world.
And the audiobook version is probably the one you should go with.
Understanding evolutionary psychology with this HBR article:
How Hardwired Is Human Behavior by Nigel Nicholson
This article goes in-depth about evolutionary psychology, and it presents itself through a management perspective. Very insightful.
